Good Boys Film Club Presents: 'In My Skin' (2002)

Tickets HERE

Set amid Paris of the 2000s, In My Skin details the commonplace life of Esther who, at a house party, unknowingly injures herself on discarded industrial equipment, leaving a viscous wound. Obsessed with the lack of pain she experiences and fascinated by the limits of her corporeality, she delves further and further into acts of exploratory self-mutilation.

In My Skin is a ferociously violent film, wholly unashamed of committing the grotesque to screen. Needless to say, de Van does not idolise self-harm, instead employing it as simulacrum. Pasted across the porous skin of film, the act grasps fundamentally at what it is to possess a body and, tacitly, where emancipation from such constraints lies - the open wound both revolting and beautiful.

Leeds Lit Fest Open Mic Fundraiser

Tickets HERE

Leeds Lit Fest returns in June with another packed programme of readings, discussions, poetry, performance and more. Sadly, we are once again struggling to secure funding, and are relying largely on donations and ticket sales.

So, we’ve decided to get an early start in 2026 with this special open mic event at the Hyde Park Book Club to celebrate our local (and perhaps not-so-local) writers and performers, and to help us raise a bit of money at the same time. Our host is Leeds poet and Chemistry compere Joe Williams.

To sign up for the open mic, just ask Joe for a slot when you arrive. We welcome everyone from first-timers to veteran performers, so if you want to give it a go, please do. You can do poetry or prose, as long as you can fit it in to the time limit of 4 minutes (which includes any introductions and other preamble).

Tickets cost £5 in advance (whether you’re performing or just watching) and all the money raised will go towards putting on the best festival we can.

Doors at 6pm, and we’ll be collecting open mic names from about 6.15pm, ready for a prompt start at 7pm. See you there!

If you can’t come but want to support Leeds Lit Fest with a donation, please visit our GoFundMe page.

Join us at Hyde Park Book Club for an intimate interview with Liz Flanagan, readings from her new novel, and a Q&A as we partner with The State of the Arts to celebrate writers shaping the northern literary scene.

Liz Flanagan is best known for her acclaimed books for children and young adults, and When We Were Divided marks an exciting new chapter in her writing career as she turns her attention to adult novels for the first time. A creative writing teacher, former book editor and former Centre Director for Arvon at Ted Hughes's Lumb Bank, Liz lives in Hebden Bridge and is deeply connected to the landscapes and communities of West Yorkshire.

Set in Yorkshire, 1643 , against the backdrop of the English Civil War, When We Were Divided, follows the lives of three captivating characters.  Jane, a devoted mother, unravels when her last son goes to fight for the King. Her sister Isabel, trapped in an unhappy marriage, finds purpose supporting Parliament's cause. Kit, starving and alone, survives by taking his dead brother's identity, discovering danger, friendship and love within the King's army. As the conflict spreads across the land, these three lives as war fractures families, loyalties and identities with devastating and transformative consequences.

The Roundhouse Poetry Slam is the UK’s leading spoken word competition and one of our most anticipated live events. Since first taking to the stage in 2006, it has helped launch the careers of countless poets and writers, bringing together some of the most exciting voices in spoken word.

More than a competition, the Slam is a celebration of the power of words and the artists who wield them. Join us for the Leeds heat and experience bold, original performances from emerging poets at the very start of their journeys.

After battling through seven national heats, the strongest voices will progress to the Final on Thu 9 April in Camden on Roundhouse’s main stage as part of the Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival — where one will be crowned the Roundhouse Slam Champion.

Plus performances from heat judges Maria Ferguson, Bradley Taylor, plus a third very special guest host, TBA! The event will be hosted by Matt Abbott and is co-produced with LIVEwire Poetry.

Doors: 6.30pm Show Starts: 7pm

Book Poetry Writing Workshop for discount code

From Manosphere believer to ending up on Andrew Tates twitter Sam Browne's new show is a little bit of sad, a little bit of funny and a whole lot of poetry.

Sam Browne is a spoken word poet from Southend, Essex, who originally set out to be a stand-up comedian until he realised all his jokes rhymed and none of them were particularly funny. So he pivoted to poetry, and things started to click. Since then, Sam has developed an online following of over 100,000 followers on instagram and tens of millions of views. He has won awards for his activism work, numerous poetry slams and was more recently featured in the BBC documentary Eastenders investigates the Manosphere. He writes about masculinity, VAWG, and, less importantly, all his big feelings. He is known for his chaotic and humorous stage presence as well as his hard-hitting poetry. Some reviews of his work include “Try harder” — Andrew Tate, and “Yeah, but is it real poetry?” — Sam’s mother.

A handsome and enigmatic guest arrives at a respectable, wealthy household in Milan and soon seduces the maid, the son, the mother, the daughter, and the father. This talk will trace the development of his work — from projects leading up to the pandemic to his more recent Hand Series, which continues to explore gesture, touch, and empathy. Paul will discuss how art can document shared experience, support wellbeing, and open conversations between artists, healthcare professionals, and communities.

Book Launch: Or Something Worse

Tickets HERE

The net-zero transition isn’t saving the planet — it’s a rigged game where the rich get richer and the rest of us pay the price. Or Something Worse exposes the brutal truth: green capitalism is a scam. Soaring bills. Broken promises. A future stolen in the name of "sustainability."

Governments and corporations are waging a one-sided class war, dressing up exploitation as progress while workers struggle and communities collapse. But resistance is growing.

From “Don’t Pay” rebellions to fossil fuel blockades and community counter-planning - people are fighting back. Or Something Worse reveals how we can seize the transition, dismantle green capitalism, and build a future that works for all — not just the powerful.

This isn’t just a crisis. It’s a war.

Join author and activist Nicholas Beuret as he launches his new book in conversation with Keir Milburn, (co-author of Radical Abundance: How to Win a Green Democratic Future) and Cath Long (of the Institute for Commoning)

'The Inspiration' Film screening

Tickets HERE

Join us for a cozy movie night at Hyde Park Book Club, where we'll be screening 'The Inspiration', and 'The Package'!

These films have been created by a student film crew, called 'The Golden Crew', at Leeds Art University, as part of their second year work. As they enter third year, they will be using all the proceedings to help fund their next projects!

Film Synopsis for both films include:

The Inspiration - After channelling her grief into a masterpiece, an obsessive writer tries to win the heart of her estranged friend with it -- unaware of his plot to steal it for his own literary success.

The Package - With a debt to a violent loan shark, a scrawny businessman must deliver a package by midnight to escape death -- except the package is a dead body.

Written and Directed By: Sam McLeod
Produced By: Ruby D'Arcy & Keira Day
