Cinema Cinètika, in collaboration with Hyde Park Book Club presents… a special film screening of the acclaimed Oscar winning Spanish feature, ‘All About My Mother’ by Pedro Almódovar (1999).
Following the death of her teenage son, nurse Manuela sets out to search for the boy's long-lost father in Barcelona, where she reawakens into a new maternal role at the head of a surrogate family that includes a pregnant, HIV-positive nun, an illustrious star of the stage and a transgender sex worker.
Dealing with complex themes such as gender identity, sexuality, faith, existentialism and AIDS, this classic by Almodóvar is not to be missed. It is a true reflection of post-Franco Spain in the 90s as it celebrates the liberation from strict, traditional and authoritarian social structures.
