Overture: Chekov

Overture: Chekov

First of all, a massive thanks to all who joined in for The Botleys. They absolutely smashed it and you lot made it one of our most memorable yet.

Next up we have a fellow who needs little introduction round these parts. It’s the one and only Laurence Huntington, aka Chekov!

It’s accurate to say we’ll be playing host to a man of the moment right now. After years of dedication to finding and nurturing his sound, Laurence has recently broken through with his superb debut 12” on Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs. Titled ‘Rotlicht EP’ (which means ‘red light’ in German), it’s a seriously accomplished release which takes influence both from the freer spots of Leipzig and queer parties in Leeds.

As the glowing RA review puts it, ‘Instead of nailing down one style, Chekov's debut suggests an adventurous young producer full of ideas, leaving you guessing which direction he might take next’. We can vouch this is the same for his masterful DJ sets, whether as resident for On Rotation or whilst manning the booth at parties across the city and further afield.

We cannae wait.

"Rather than a Nick Cave album, they should be named after something by the Jesus Lizard or Mudhoney, such is the monstrous noise they make. Singer Harry Waugh bawls cavernous Palma Violets gang chants over slabs of psych rock sludge that, at their most melodic, resemble the Stone Roses, Spiritualized and the Sex Pistols in a monster truck pile-up and often build to crescendos they'll only be able to get on to record by demolishing the studio on cue"

The By Gods / Ravens

7:00pm 7:00pm

The By Gods / Ravens

THE BY GODS - If it feels like Nashville’s The By Gods are trying to drill through your skull to plant their hook- laden songs in your your grey matter, that’s precisely the point. Squalls of feedback interrupting repetitive chords signaling the return to a chorus, it’s what we’ve come to recognize as the formula; a recipe for loud/quiet/loud.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2Gz8DJoeIs

RAVENS - Formed in Coventry and comprising of three members, RAVENS take the best bits of Post-Punk and Dream-Pop to create a haunting yet melodic sound. Inspired by the noises of The Jesus And Mary Chain and the heartbreak of The Cure, expect hypnotic drums, Infectious guitar riffs and fuzzy bass.

Bradford’s FLING provide the previously unsearched-for missing link between T-Rex and the Fat White Family. Forging together Glam Rock, Punk, and Psych with a solid sense of Northern irony and an ever-present aura of late night haziness FLING have created a sound which captivates, entertains and stands out from the crowd gaining support at Beats 1, BBC 6 Music, and a rapidly growing fanbase of ‘Flingers’.

Following a slew of home demos, and a run of their own ‘Get Flung’ night the band have teamed up with Lee Smith at Greenmount Studios (The Cribs / Pulled Apart By Horses) to record a number of new tracks to be released throughout late 2017 via Leeds indie label Dance to the Radio.
