Dilettante is an art-rock collective led by multi-instrumentalist Francesca Pidgeon and is based in Northern England. It was born out of a fear of committing to a single line up, and is Francesca Pidgeon’s rebound project after a long-term relationship with indie-jazz four piece ‘Kumiko’.

'It is a riot of swing, jazz, and indie, a jamboree of brass, riffs, and cymbals. Bish bosh drums, loud and proud horns, and low-lying, furtive basslines meld with tinkling ivories, and a melee of squiggles to serve up what has to be the most unique of the numbers on this week’s playlist.

The trio hail from the North and cite St. Vincent and David Byrne amongst their musical influence. The latter’s influence can be clearly heard in the idiosyncratic, left-of-centre grooves.'

- Fresh On The Net

'Pidgeon flits between saxophone, clarinet, guitar and piano to give her gorgeous compositions more texture, with her songs treading the line between the confessional and the obtuse with great aplomb. Reminiscent of Actor-era St Vincent at it’s very best, Dilettante’s soulful, articulate songwriting warms the hearts of those gathered.'

- NARC Magazine

'Each track seems to comprise of jazz, funk and indie backing the impressive and attention grabbing vocals. Creatively this is a project brimming with intelligent composition, both in the instrumentation and the clever, interesting, lyrics.'

- Counterfeit Magazine

Van Houten formed in 2017, are a Psychedelic - Pop band whose origins lie in the same vein as Lo-Fi Indie artists such as Ariel Pink, Jay Som and Mac Demarco. Over time, through rigorous experimentation, the band have discovered new ways of capturing and producing their music, taking on more influence from the psychedelic sounds of the sixties and early seventies and have crafted a refined sound that is packed with colorful sonic textures, and dense soundscape which provide an effortless platform for the Pop melodies and catchy hooks.

Having released two singles in 2018, Van Houten have now teamed up with Producer Martin Smith (Gomez, Bombay Bicycle Club, Richard Hawley) to take their music to the next level.

Alex Rushfirth is an expert looper, writing playful melodies with lyrical themes pertaining to surviving in a world overrun by technology. Half songwriter, half producer - he can't decide what he wants to be and that's half the fun.
